Door locks are created by the Dogon people with reverence to the ancestors and spirits. The sliding crossbar is be used to secure a granary door and would also convey the social standing and wealth of its owner. The etching design reflects Islamic patterns, as well as elements of the Dogon creation story with Nonno, creator of the universe.
