A rare and valuable form of currency used for important transactions. Single snakes were used commonly for everyday exchanges. This torch-like bundle of multiple snakes was much more valuable and reserved for larger trades. Snakes hold a prominent place in African beliefs and storytelling. Regarded as potent symbols of fertility and wisdom, snakes are central to African iconology.
