The Mumuye consider this statue, called a iagalagana, a teacher. They engage in dialog with it, asking for guidance, health or protection. In trial, the members swear on the sculpture to ensure honesty. Physical characteristics of the piece include the exemplary long, thin torso; a proud head crest, and elongated earlobes to accomodate ear plugs. This piece also shows whisker-like scarification and fetching gold eyes. This is an authentic piece with age and history for the discriminating collector.
