Even door locks are created by the Dogon people with reverence to the spirits. The sliding crossbar is be used to secure a granary door, and the lock on the right side indicates a Dogon artifact. The etching design reflects Islamic patterns, which is also why this lock, as most Dogon art, is typically non-representational. Dogon show social standing, wealth, and representations of the ancestors through their carvings.
