This exquisite and impressively sized piece belongs to the group of cross-shaped currency forms.  It is distinguished by the external edges which are cast in relief.  The most famous production of this type of form occurred along the middle Zambesi river.  It is one of the very few currency forms produced using a mould.  

The simplicity of the shape gives it an exceptionally modern feel.  Incredible to think that this was created over 300 years ago making it a very special collector's piece.
